Researchers evaluated the quality of diet in women with singleton pregnancies in the third trimester or within 3 months of delivery using the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Healthy Eating Index (HEI), which assigns a numeric value ranging from 0-100. A higher HEI score indicates a higher quality diet
Women with an HEI score of 70 or higher were 67 percent less likely to have fetal growth restriction and 54 percent less likely to have high blood pressure in pregnancy compared to women with a lower HEI score. There was no difference in gestational diabetes or large for getational age infants.
